My Approach
The most important thing you have to do on your wedding day for me to get great pictures is to have a fabulous time. That's it. Because by the time that day has come, we have already decided on the style and content of the shots you want, we've gone to the venue or venues, we've gone through the schedule and shot list, and hopefully we've had an engagement shoot. This time and preparation will be well worth it, because on that day we'll be comfortable together and you'll be able to relax and have fun!
Part of this preparation is so that I understand how you want me to interact with you. My shooting style at your wedding will be dictated by what you want. Some couples want me right in the action to get the most intimate shots, and some couples want me to be more invisible, especially during the ceremony. Some couples want to be very directed in the posing and compositions, while some others want more of a hands-off photojournalistic approach that emphasizes candid moments. I enjoy shooting in a photojournalistic style, but I have also been trained and am experienced in formal portraiture. I believe that there is a place for more traditional, formal photography, and a place for fun, spontaneous, photojournalistic photography over the course of the wedding day.
I like to be ready with a shot list, a preview of the important locations of the day, an itinerary from your wedding planner or DJ/Emcee, and any special requests that you have. These are the kinds of things we cover in the Planning Meeting and it ensures that I cover all the important events and get the shots you want.
I also want to understand your vision for the day. Many couples want some variation of the following themes for their wedding: Fun/Party, Elegant/Classy, and Memorable/Unique. Based on your vision, we will cater our photography to capture that vision. If your wedding reception is going to be a huge party, then we will photograph you and your guests dancing with lots of motion and excitement. If your ceremony is going to be very elegant, then we will photograph it in a classic style that brings out all of those special touches that went into the planning. If you have a particular theme or unique aspect to your wedding, such as honoring a particular location like Tuscany or Paris where you may have gotten engaged, then we will focus on that uniqueness so it comes through in the photographs.
Your actual wedding day will be a blur. You plan it for months, even a year or more, and then it is over so quickly. But all that effort, all that stress, and yes, all that money, will be well worth it. Somehow in the end it all comes together, and although there may be some glitches, everything will work out. Part of my job during the day is to help you enjoy the special moments so that I can capture them in photographs.
And when that day is over, you’ll have lifetime memories. Immediately you start looking forward to the pictures, which is why I do my best to turn them around quickly. My advice is to take a relaxing honeymoon to really soak in the memories of your wedding day. When you return, we can start reviewing the images and talk about your wedding album, if that’s one of the items you chose.
I am very meticulous about the images I create. I put in a lot of effort in digital post-production to get the shots as good as they can possibly be. I will create black and white versions of many images and present them alongside the original color versions. The images that I provide you on CD, with copies at a lower resolution on my web site, are ready to be printed.
It is a cliché to say that photography is my “passion,” but what that means is that I truly enjoy photographing weddings. I too get to share the joy of your wedding, but it’s more than that because I contribute to the joy that you and your family and friends get to share for years to come. Nothing makes me happier than to receive a phone call or email from the bride and groom saying that they love my pictures. At the end of the day, this is what you are purchasing.
Of all the things you have to worry about on your wedding day, please don’t let photography be one of them. You just focus on enjoying your day, and I’ll focus on you!
